 Modding cars? - 2007/04/05 10:55 What would be the coolest way to mod your car. I'm not talking about pimping it out with blue LEDs/neons, I mean useful changes.

Internal media system?
Silencing the car?
Adding remote ignition?

 Re:Modding cars? - 2007/04/05 12:46 Its something that would be done in a pretty standard way by anyone who attempted it - mount a pc of some description inside the car.

What would be nice is some sort of OS that comes configured for use in a car - with easy to use plugins for controlling things like your media, gps and more advanced functions - most cars are the same and most peoples requirements of the product would be the same.
A launching platform is all thats required to make this challenging mod into a really sweet one.

Possible plugins could be:


  • in car media center

  • remote access for ignition, windows, locking

  • smart computer on/off functionality - linked to
    • ignition and battery usage
  • gps software

  • wifi integration to house network - control your car from the house and the house from the car ( no need to open garage door - would just happen when you got in range of house).

  • Car monitoring - link all data collection into the computer so you know your speed, distance - can warn when service required.

    • [li[ Bluetooth - automagically connect your phone to the car for hands free action [/li]


Certainly out of my scope but would be nice to see someone set this sort of platform up. I would love to contribute.
