RC Helicopter LED mod

introDo you have trouble flying nose in? keep getting your left and the heli's right confused? well this could be the mod for you. I found by putting different coloured LED's on the skids, and altering my thinking to think, red side up etc it was much easier to work out how to fly nose in. It also has the added bonus of being able to see your Helicopter at night!

Indestructible RC Helicopter Skids

cover.jpgFed up with the stock skids? not impressed by the weight of extreme skids? I wasn't so I made my own. I made them out of polymorph to give it extra "bounce" on those hard impacts. It features stronger joints to the heli frame - the weak point on the stock skids.

Update - added a battery mount, pics to follow later :D

Twin Tail Motor Mod

As requested a short tutorial on how to mod your tail to use two motors, the advantage for this being the reduced current being forced through the little engines ( especially necessary if you're running 11.1v instead of the 7.2v these babies are designed for).

I of course did this mod on my HoneyBee CP2 helicopter but I'm sure the ideas are the same...

Tail Motor Heatsink

intro_t.jpg Everyone knows tail motors on R/C helicopters burn out too quick for the pocket to recover, burning them in helps but a lot of the damage is done by the great heat it runs under. The cooler I've seen for the cp2 didn't appeal to me - limited contact area, big chunky fins, I didn't think it was the best design, so here's mine :)

Its a simple mod using copper desolder braiding to quickly remove the heat from the little engine. It has tails coming off the back to dissipate the heat as quickly as possible to the surrounds.

This is prototype 1 but its seems to be working very well so might leave it at that. The motor is no longer too hot to touch so the heatsink is working and working well, whether it prolongs motor life we'll just have to wait and see.

Rotor Head Ball Joint Repair

Posted by Richard Hornby Sunday, 15 April 2007 14:12

intro_t.jpgA small encounter with the fence smashed my HoneyBee CP2 R/C Helicopter up. Good news is it wasn't a bad break - only a ball joint in the rotor head, bad news is its out of stock so could be waiting a while for a replacement.

So I attempted to fashion my own, with unexpected ease and success. This will explain what I did and how to do it so hopefully you can carry out similar repairs.
