Molex to P4 Power Connector

Some PC power supplies do not come with a connector known as the "P4 power connector" designed for Pentium 4 or above motherboards. This connector is now commonly found on most new motherboards and is normally required to be connected. If you don't have a P4 power connector on your power supply and you have parts or spares from other power supplies or projects around then it should be relatively easy to make an adapter which plugs into a "Molex" power connector and provides the P4 power.
You will need:
- Male P4 power connector (Salvaged or bought)
- Female molex power connector (Salvaged or bought)
- Soldering Iron
- Solder
- Heatshrink or electrical tape
You may need:
- Suitable gauge wire for joining or extending the connectors. Make sure to check your power supply's label to ensure that your wire can carry the stated current.
Instructions:
- If you have salvaged a P4 male connector with wires already attached the the task is simply connecting wires together. If, however, you have bought the connectors yourself you will need to attach the appropriate wires as necessary. The following diagram shows how to connect the wires together:

- My molex connector was salvaged from an old fan which had a passthrough connector. Here is my salvaged molex connector with wires already coming out of it:

- I salvaged a P4 connector, with wires attached, from an old, broken power supply:

- First join the two yellow wires (12v) together, then join them to the yellow wire on the molex connector.
- Then you need to join each black wire (Ground) to a black wire on the molex connector, it does not matter which way you do it.
- Solder all of these connections together.
- Cover any bare wire with heatshrink or electrical tape. Here's what my completed cable looked like once it was all soldered and covered with heatshrink:

- Visually inspect the connection to ensure that it is sound. It wouldn't hurt to test it with a multimeter or continuity tester too, but with such large wires you shouldn't really go wrong.
- Finally hook it up to you power supply and use it!

I *did* have a picture of it somewhere, but my fiancee loves to delete the photos off the camera before _I_ get a chance to get mine off *sigh*
